I'm so excited about the new fabrics I have coming into the studio, I look forward to making pretty things with them! I just love hand made textiles, while I do dyeing myself there are so many ancient ways to create beautiful fabrics.
Here's a few:
Hand Looming
Hand looming is one of the oldest techniques to make fabric and is traditionally done with silks. The oldest form still used today is the Jamdani technique from India, elaborate designs are embroidered by hand (traditionally gold or silver thread) into the fabric while it is being woven. It's origin is from about 300 BC and it makes the finest of fabrics.

Hand Block Printing
Hand block printing is around three centuries old and started in Gujurat, India. The blocks are hand carved out of teak or rorda wood and then soaked in oil over night. They are then washed and ready to use.
