She is such a rock star with people right now. What I love are the textures and patterns that Isabel is using in her collections for spring and summer.

                                                         Enjoy!

Hello Friday!

                                          Hawaiian Islands
                                        By August Wilhelm Wern

O beauteous Isles in midway sea,
Thou ocean gems of priceless pearls,
Where tepid rain and gentle breeze
Around thy vales and mountains curl,
And noontime sun of brightest gold
With brilliant light doth thee enfold.

The ocean gently meets thy strand
Through tangled moss and coral reefs,
And forms 'round thee a wedlock band
That doth to thee in friendship cleave
                                    With placid billows, rolling in
                                    Like children's play in rollicking.

All, all is calm as if at night
Life slumbered in its sweetest dream,
Or feared that old Kilauea might
                                    Spit fire at the slightest scream;
                                    And dusky natives are content
To live in just such element.

                                   Aloha! wherewith they will greet
Their own or others on the way,
That in their rambling they may meet,
But would prefer the live-long day
To slumber 'neath a banyan tree,
Or eat their poi near Waikiki.

Sweet pleasure through the woods to rove,
And listen to the mynah bird,
Or through the stately coconut grove,
                                   Where urchins' chattering is heard,
Or pass through valley's vistas Eden
With fruits and flowers o'er laden.

                                   When twilight's silvery moon appear,
And twinkling stars with brightness gleam,
Naught but the murmuring waves we hear.
'Tis then that near me angels seem
That smile on me, lull me to sleep
Within the cradle near the deep.

                                                                   Happy Weekend!
                                                          Aloha

                                              Donna Karen

The shapes and prints are stunning in Donna Karen's spring collection. I usually don't go for big name designers, as I've said before but this one really calls me.
I love the triangle skirt because it's the same shape as my Lalani skirt only in silk and the zigzag skirt is really creative.

                                                                                Enjoy!

Hello Friday!

Hi Everyone!

It's the weekend again and I'm thinking a few days are needed in the San Juan's. I love the islands so much, they are my ancestral homelands.

This is the ferry arriving at Orcas Island, home waters of the Orca Whales. Our tribe, the Samish Indian Nation has it's own pod, the J Pod. We had a beautiful naming ceremony last summer for our newest calf and we named him T'ilem I'nges (teelem eenges) meaning singing grandchild.

T'ilem I'nges

I feel so at peace when we are here I guess I'm just an island girl, I feel the same way about Maui too. There are many islands in this archipelago, but Orcas and Samish Island are my favorites.

Samish Island

We used to have a longhouse on Samish Island but it is not standing any longer. If you would like to learn more about our tribe and Coast Salish customs click here:samishtribe.nsn.us/samish-community/culture/

I have a few favorite places to eat around the islands. One is on Orcas and it's in a town called Olga to which the cafe is named after. Breakfasts at the Olga Cafe are simply delicious and filling. It's also a art gallery so while your waiting for your table you can enjoy the handwork of the local artists.

I really love Moran State Park for hiking, you can hike Mount Constitution easily. I can't wait until the weather warms when you can smell cedar, pine and fir mixed with blackberries in the air it's so fragrant! It's worth the effort for the scents and views.

Another cafe I like to visit when I go back is Farm to Market in Bow, Washington, it's a tiny place with giant flavor. I love their pies and sandwiches. It's on the way to Samish Island and we often stop and grab our treats to go then find a secluded spot on Samish to nosh.

I hope we never loose our local flavor that makes Cascadia so unique and special, we're just a bunch of NW hippies doing it our way.

                                                                   Enjoy!

                                                           Tamara Catz

Tamara Catz has a great store in the town of Pa'ia. When ever I'm in town I stop by for a visit.  Originally from Buenos Aires, Tamara moved to Maui and then set up her design studio and boutique. Her boutique is fun but the real show is the Bridal Collection which is stunning for beach weddings. If your on the island or plan on getting married on Maui go and visit her boutique your sure to find something lovely.

Hello Friday!

 Hello Everyone!

The weekend is near and I only have a few things left to do in the studio before show season starts. It's a bit odd to have so much time on my hands that I have been procrastinating on all the small things that need to get done. Oh well.

Maybe we will watch some epic surfing and beach movies (if the weathers bad) like:

                                                                            Point Break

I love this movie (if you haven't seen this movie don't read any further), I knew the good guys were the bad guys right away, which made me sad 'cause I liked them! Plus Keanu and Patrick are easy on the eyes.

And I knew it would end like it did, but hey what did you expect from Bodhi? It's a heroic tale about the love and soul of surfing, among other things.

Then there are the documentary surfing movies like the epic 1966 "The Endless Summer" which I haven't seen, but the second one (The Endless Summer II) made me want to get out my board and surf! And the sound track was all guitars so you can get pretty amped up.

I also love old movies like Blue Hawaii, my favorite Elvis movie ever!

I'd take a tour from Chad anytime. The soundtrack is pretty great too.

Remember Annette and Frankie? Beach Blanket Bingo!
We loved this movie at our house, it would be fun to watch again.
